Origin of Urban Paws Photography
Joan Walker, owner and lead photographer at PAWtographers, began photographing 20+ years ago. She has an alphabet soup of photographic degrees to prove it. Additionally, she has written over 28 books on dog training and handling. Joan, and her husband, Randy, specialize in pet portraiture. For the last 15 years, Grace has been working alongside Joan to deliver custom photography. Matt joined the team and learned the magic behind the software, lighting, and business.
In 2025, we formally launched Urban Paws Photography under the PAWtographers. Matt and Grace, associate photographers at PAWtographers, specialize in historic cities, downtown cityscapes, family portraiture, children and their pets, and so much more. We believe it's important to have inclusive family photos. Our goal is to make your photoshoot as stress-free as possible!
Grace + Matthew
At the Urban Paws and Pals Photography by the PAWtographers, it is truly a family affair. Grace has quite literally grown up in the world of pet portrait and family portrait photography. She has been directly studying under Joan Walker for 15 years. Grace started off as a dog handler then graduated to a lightning assistant and gradually took on every role in the photography business. Grace is now the artist behind the camera for Urban Paws and Pals, specializing in the downtown cityscape and historic cities. She's combined her love for animals and intimate knowledge of historic cities to create timeless family and pet portraits. Grace grew up training and showing dogs and horses. She is no stranger to animals. Grace grew up with Rottweilers and Havanese. She currently owns a House Hippo AKA Pit bull and a mini Golden Doodle.
Matthew, a Marine Veteran turned toddler wrangler, is the magician behind the lights. He works behind-the-scenes to transform images into works of art. He often works to position dogs, light, and entertains the children. Both, Grace and Matthew, have experience with all animals from Havanese to Rottweilers. All breeds, rescued or expertly bred, are welcome at Urban Paws and Pals Photography.
